Love Bubby celebrates a big milestone this week - we celebrate our fifth year of business! When I launched  Love Bubby in my Brooklyn living room, Bubby (Parker) was 3 years old and it had been 4 months since I left my corporate job. It was time for a new chapter and my mission was bigger than I anticipated.

This week, we’re celebrating our customers, the extreme highs (Oprah’s Favorite Things Holiday list) and lows (getting diagnosed with breast cancer 30 days before launch), and the friends we made along the way.

In honor of this Love Bubby milestone, I’m answering some of the most common questions I receive about the brand and our growth.

What does Love Bubby mean?

My son Parker was born in 2013 and we have called him “Bubby” (a term of endearment nickname) since he was in my belly. When I tell others the name's origin, many respond with, “I call my little one Bubby too!” It seemed perfect when we were launching to include him as a namesake since the brand focuses on little ones making a statement. In the beginning, he was a big source of inspiration for our designs.

What was the moment you realized you were a brand that people love?

Since we are an e-commerce brand, we don’t always get feedback in words other than in reviews, emails or Instagram comments. But when we meet our customers IRL, that’s when we know we are doing something exciting. It typically happens at pop-up markets or retail trade shows when I experience the positive emotion from people who love what our brand stands for and the designs. It’s so thrilling to hear this directly from our customers!

What is the most challenging part of managing Love Bubby?

Trying to do everything! When you are a small brand, you really have to do it all. You are able to outsource as the brand grows but even after 5 years, I do so many things for the brand. In the last few years, we have been able to hire positions in marketing, social media and studio organization/order fulfillment. I still work on so much of the DNA and day-to-day work, which it’s absolutely a common trait with small businesses.

How does it feel when you run into someone wearing your designs?

I guess it’s like hearing your song on the radio. 🤗 We have a big fan base in Brooklyn where we are located, so there are many occasions when I am walking around and see our designs in the wild. I don’t want to freak out the parents or children so I don’t really say anything but I smile inside.

I think it’s cooler when I hear friends share their experience about seeing our designs on little ones or with retail partners. It’s like ”I know her!!” Even my friends have approached some of our customers and that always makes for a funny reenacted story.

What’s one piece of advice you would give yourself 5 years ago?

You can do hard things. You will build something great. It will not look like any other brand. You will not get there the same way and success will not look the same - but it will truly be great.

Living by the motto “You are never too young to make a statement”, our designs continue to inspire the next generation. We are so proud of the journey and hope you’ll join us by posting fun photos, videos and stories of the past 5 years on Instagram.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. I look forward to the next 5 years. ❤
